Welcome to The Cumbria Steam Gathering Online
Cumbria Steam Gathering
24th and 25th July 2010
The 2010 Cumbria Steam Gathering will be as huge as ever with more than 1,200 catalogued classic exhibits, a traditional fair, displays, specialist caterers and crafts.
For 38 years, The Cumbria Steam & Vintage Vehicle Society has been bringing together vintage and steam vehicles from across the world, to Flookburgh, for one massive summer event.
Held on 24th and 25th July 2010 on Cark Airfield, Flookburgh, the Cumbria Steam Gathering is a colourful and noisy weekend event that has a whole host of entertainment; with majestic steam engines and commercial vehicles of a bygone era, as well as hundreds of classic transport favourites featuring cars, motorcycles, bicycles, agricultural and industrial tractors, farm equipment and stationary engines.
Whilst the adults browse round the thousands of exhibits, (some of which are displayed in huge marquees), the children can enjoy demonstrations, magic shows, miniature remote controlled car racing and the traditional fairground.
Music is provided by various bands including The Pantonic Steel Orchestra playing throughout the weekend. Popular highlights are the arena displays where a constant parade of vintage treasures can be seen, from the large grandstands, as well as ploughing demonstrations, chain saw carving exhibitions, kite-flying displays and wrestling bouts from the Cumberland and Westmorland Academy.
For the more adventurous, there's the opportunity to drive a traction engine (supporting our nominated local charities). Our younger visitors can take part in a Junior Tractor Driving Training Course and obtain a certificate of competence. (Pre-course booking is essential for this two day training course. Ages 13-17 years.)
This year’s headlining entertainment comes from Elaine Hill with her Sheep Dog Display, Richard Savory’s Sheep Show and the North West Lawnmower Racing Association.
During her displays Elaine’s dogs works geese and ducks around a miniature trial course and she covers the basics of training a working dog, while Richard’s fun and educational sheep show includes shearing demonstrations and “The Sheep Show Shuffle” – dancing sheep!
Elsewhere, thrilling lawn mower racing takes place. With all the thrills of motor racing this is motor sport at grass roots level with cutting edge technology!

With many different catering outlets including cuisines from around the world, offering healthy eating and fully licensed bar areas, the Cumbria Steam Gathering is the perfect way to taste the sights, sounds and smells of a nostalgic family weekend in Cumbria.
